The factory made winter footwear for men, womenand children. - shoes, clothes, fashion hair style

Author: admin

The history of Converse shoes started during the early part of the 20th century. The company became one of the most successful footwear businesses in the world by the middle of the century. With the rise of rival companies, the firm faced a number of challenges, eventually losing the long battle with other manufacturers.
The Converse Rubber Shoe Company was opened in 1908. Located in Malden, Massachusetts, the firm was started by Marquis M. Converse. The factory made winter footwear for men, womenand children.
In 1917, the Converse All-Star basketball shoe was introduced and began to be worn by Chuck Taylor. Chuck Taylor was a basketball player who helped promote the shoes, which eventually bore his name.
The war brought about a change for the company in which production shifted to footwear, boots and other rubber products for troops. This was a huge economic boom for the company.
Converse became the most popular sports shoe throughout the postwar era. The company leveraged the artistic work of Charles Kerins to push for further sales in high schools and colleges.
On January 22, 2001, Converse was forced to file for bankruptcy. It had lost the majority of its market share to Reebok and Nike. Nike purchased Converse in 2003 for $305 million. Read more....

The evolution of shoes from moccasins to stilettos includes several key moments - shoes, clothes, fashion hair style

Author: admin

The history of shoes began more than 40,000 years ago with mans need to protect his feet from harm. Our ancestors required sturdy shoes to shield their feet from rocks, sand and harsh weather conditions. But shoe history does not begin and end with the desire for protective foot coverings alone. From medieval aristocrats wearing decorative shoes to denote nobility to our current obsession with celebrity shoe designers, shoes have and will forever be an integral part of our ability to express our fashion sense and individuality.
The first shoe worn by man was a sandal. Famously crafted by ancient Egyptians out of papyrus leaves and made from soft leather by Persians, sandals also were worn in Greece, Rome and Mesopotamia. During the Middle Ages, sandals were abandoned for moccasins and boots. An early form of moccasin was used by the American Indians as well as the Eskimos. This type of footwear was the standard shoe worn by American settlers until Thomas Beard brought shoemaking from London to the United States in the mid-1500s.
Shoemaking evolved from producing protective footwear to symbols of status and prestige. Shoe artisans created ornate and decorative shoes for aristocrats in ancient Egypt, Japan and Europe. These shoes indicated social rank in society and were symbols of status and wealth for the wearer. For example, famous monarchs Louis XIV and Henry VII both introduced fashionable shoes in England and France to hide their physical deformities and enhance their wealthy status.
In the 16th century, wealthy French women and aristocrats in Venice wore the first high-heeled, platform wooden shoes. Similar to modern times in which special shoes are worn for weddings, athletics and dance performances, early shoe history reveals that footwear was created for special events and ceremonies. According to National Geographic.com, in the 15th century, wealthy Italian and French women wore elaborately decorative shoes called chompines. These high heels were precursors to the infamous Italian-named stilettos of the 1950s.
Shoe styles range from dress to athletic. The material of the shoe and its heel height often determine the type of shoe and its function. According to Wikipedia, the wide selections of shoe types include clogs, platforms, sandals, loafers, boots, slippers, boat shoes, athletic shoes, orthopedic, dance, espadrilles, moccasins, oxfords, pumps and balmorals.
The evolution of shoes from moccasins to stilettos includes several key moments of innovation and fine craftsmanship. Most shoemaking during the mid-1800s were made using the same shoemaking tools created in ancient times with very few modifications.
American shoemakers were important innovators in shoe history. Many of these notable shoe artisans improved upon European design and created machinery for mass shoe production. Lyman Blake created a machine to sew shoe parts together efficiently. Gordon McKay improved upon his original apparatus used to attach the soles of shoes to uppers. According to the Paynesville Historical Society, in the early 18th century John Adams Dagyr created the first shoe factory in America. Jan Matzlenger created a machine that could produce upwards of 700 shoes a day. He received a patent for this technology in 1883. Read more....

You can find a lot of cool shoes at thrift shops - shoes, clothes, fashion hair style

Author: admin

EBay is a great place to make extra money by selling shoes. You probably wont become a millionaire by doing this, but youll put some extra cash in your pocket without doing a ton of work. The first thing you have to do, however, is find shoes to sell.
Look in your closet. Find all the shoes you dont like and no longer wear and put them aside to be sold on eBay. Go through your childrens closets as well.
Ask everyone you know if they have shoes theyd like to get rid of. You can either buy the shoes up front of offer to pay for them when they sell. Almost everyone has shoes that they dont wear that are cluttering up their closet. Theyll be glad to get rid of them.
Shop at thrift stores. You can find a lot of cool shoes at thrift shops, and you may even find cheap designer shoes to resell. Browse through eBays shoe listings before you buy to get an idea of what shoes sell and what shoes dont.
Go to yard sales. You can sometimes get entire boxes of shoes at yard sales for just a few dollars. Go late in the day and offer to take any leftover shoes off their hands. They wont want to drag the old shoes back into the house, so theyll probably sell them at a deep discount or just give them to you.
Watch for sales at shoe and department stores. If you hit a good clearance sale, stock up on a particular style. This way, you can sell several pairs at the same time without having to create new photos or descriptions for each listing. Read more....

Read the measurement on the tape measurethis is the inside shoe length. - shoes, clothes, fashion hair style

Author: admin

Vintage shoe sizes havent changed significantlya woman who wears a size 7 1/2 modern shoe will probably still wear between a 7 or an 8 in most vintage shoe sizes. Vintage sizes do vary from manufacturer to manufacturer, though, so if you intend to list vintage shoes for sale you will want to list both their size and their measurements so that customers can select the best fit. Customers can use the same techniques to measure their own shoes, then record those measurements so that they know exactly what dimensions to look for when shopping for vintage shoes.
Feed the end of a flexible tape measure into the toe of the vintage shoe. Make sure the tape measure is centered in the middle of the insole and runs directly from the end of the toe to the end of the heel. Read the measurement on the tape measurethis is the inside shoe length.
Place the end of the tape against the inside edge of the widest part of the shoe, which is generally the ball of the foot. Flatten the tape across this area and read the measurement to get the inside shoe width.
Measure across the heel of the shoe, using the same technique as directed above, just before it tapers. This is the heel width and may or may not be listed on many vintage shoes.
Place your vintage shoe on a flat surface and use a rigid ruler to measure the distance from the surface up to the seam where the heel meets the sole of the shoe. This is the heel height. Make sure the edge of the ruler sits flush against the flat surface the shoe is resting on and the ruler itself leads straight up. Read more....

Boots arent just for cowboys anymore. - shoes, clothes, fashion hair style

Getting off on the right foot doesnt have to be hardneither does finding the shoe that fits your style and needs. In fact, its downright necessary for a modern male to know about his footwear options.
For business or a night out on the town, a good pair of oxfords might do. These lace-up dress shoes dont rise above the ankle and come in a variety of styles. Bluchers are open-laced oxfords with the sides sewn on top of the front, which cuts the shoe into stitched segments. Balmores are a closed-laced oxford where the laces are sewn under the front part then closed over the tongue, creating one whole piece. Some oxfords have a front leather piece known as a cap toe, which may have intricate embroidery. Named for wing-like embroidery, the wingtip is the most common shoe of the oxford family. Wear black oxfords for more formal occasions and brown oxfords for everything else.
Loafers are slip-on dress shoes and dont have any laces. Like oxfords, loafers come in a variety of styles, including the penny loafer and the moccasin, and not every man can carry off wearing them. For example, if youre young and hip, avoid the monk belt loafer with buckle. Tassel loafers are best suited with your Sunday best, but not for your pair of worn-out jeans.
Whether playing basketball or skateboarding, nothing beats a good pair of sneakers. High-tops are good for the court or if you favor skinny jeans. But youll get more mileage out of a classic canvas sneaker like a pair of Converse or Vans, which goes with just about everything in your wardrobe. Always have a sensible pair of tennis shoes, running or otherwise, for the gym. One caveat, according to fashion writer Adam Fox, dont ever have your socks visible when wearing your sneakers with shorts.
Casual shoes can be worn with just about everything, making them the perfect everyday non-athletic wear. Swank and stylish, leather casual shoes are all the rage for the guy who wants a dressier shoe but without all the polish. These leather shoes resemble the lace-up oxfords but with a rubber sole, making them almost a formal/informal hybrid. Canvas loafers, also known as deck shoes, come in bright colors. Its best to wear these shoes with a pair of linen pants.
Boots arent just for cowboys anymore. Ankle-boots, like the kind worn by the Beatles back in the day, are worn with suits or just dress slacks. For more formal occasions, wear an ankle boot with a pointed toe and zipper. For hiking, lace-up heavy boots with additional ankle support and thick rubber soles should be worn.
Thongs are excellent for beachwear because they are waterproof. Sports sandals are also waterproof and are good for outdoor sports activities. For outdoor spring and summer events, buy a pair of leather sandals, which go well with linen suits. Read more....

Brush any loose dirt or mud off your gym shoes with a terrycloth - shoes, clothes, fashion hair style

Author: admin

Regular workouts do wonders for your appearance, your energy level and your overall fitness, but theyre murder on your Adidas. Whats more, the tell-tale odor has a nasty way of following you, stinking up your closet, your gym bag, your locker or your car. You can shower, but your shoes cant.
So whats the best way to deal with smelly gym shoes? Wear clean, cotton socks during every workout and sprinkle a teaspoon of baking soda into each shoe after every wearing. Send them through the washing machine every once in a while, just like you do with the rest of your gym clothes. Heres how to wash your sneakers without ruining them.
Take the laces out of your shoes, and remove any inserts. Pull the tongue of the shoes out, to expose as much of the surface as possible.
Brush any loose dirt or mud off your gym shoes with a terrycloth washcloth. Spray especially dirty areas with laundry pre-treater.
Set the washing machine to maximum capacity and the water temperature to warm. Start the water running.
Add the recommended amount of detergent and color-safe bleach for the laundry cycle you are running. The bleach will kill the bacteria that makes the shoes smelly. Put the shoes, laces and inserts in the washing machine, and let the cycle run until finished.
Set the dryer temperature to warm, and tumble dry the shoes for 10 minutes. Remove the shoes and stuff the toes with crumpled white paper, and place them in a well-ventilated area to air dry. Read more....

such as the Statue of Liberty or the Golden Gate Bridge. - shoes, clothes, fashion hair style

You dont have to be a professional artist to turn shoes into a design masterpiece. With waterproof fabric markers and a healthy imagination, you can scribble and doodle to create a cool design. The best shoes to draw on have plain fronts without laces, such as canvas slip-ons, but there is plenty of room on boat shoes, sneakers and espadrilles. If you need inspiration, look at websites for customizable shoes, such as Vans or Nike.
Personalize a pair of sneakers with your name. Put your initials on the toes of each shoe or one initial on each. Sign your name with a flourish on the side. Ask your friends to autograph your shoes with a signature or initials. This works best on light-colored sneakers with bright ink colors. An alternative with black sneakers is to use a silver metallic marker.
White or beige canvas shoes form the perfect background for a beach scene because they are the color of sand. If you are better at sketching than painting, use a fine-point marker to create a pen-and-ink drawing of the ocean, sky and sea. Add a few waves, boats and sand dunes to make a natural scene or draw palm trees and umbrellas for a tropical beach.
If you are going on a trip, use your shoes as a travel diary. With a pocket full of pens, you can design a pair of shoes over the course of your trip. Write the dates of your journey on your shoes and draw one or more icons you experienced, such as the Statue of Liberty or the Golden Gate Bridge. If you prefer to take pictures, not draw them, fill the space on your shoes with data, such as street addresses, flight numbers, and the numbers and website for hotels and restaurants you plan to visit.
Team fans can show their loyalty with shoe designs. Choose a shoe in a team color and cover the shoe with oversize images that can be seen by other fans. If you are attending a sports championship game, draw the athletic equipment, team mascot and venue. Add the final score as a finishing touch. If you are drawing on sneakers, consider drawing on the laces, too. Choose clean, flat laces in white cotton. Use team colors in alternating stripes on the laces or write the name of the team in a repeating pattern. Read more....

Grease a piece of wax paper with shortening - shoes, clothes, fashion hair style

Author: admin

A combination of sugar, water and cream of tartar, fondant is a soft, pliable form of icing that can be molded into just about anything, including ballerina shoes. While you can make your own fondant, you can save time by buying pre-made fondant. Then use either a silicone fondant mold to shape the ballet slippers or form them by hand. Whichever method you use, the trick is to mold your ballerina shoes in a cooler temperature room so the fondant doesnt soften too much while working quickly so it doesnt dry out.
Grease a piece of wax paper with shortening, and knead the fondant on it just until it becomes workable.
Roll the fondant out on the wax paper using a rolling pin until it is about 1/4-inch thick. The amount of fondant youll need will depend on the size of the ballerina shoes you want to make.
Press the fondant in a silicone fondant mold shaped like ballerina shoes, and place it in the freezer for 5 to 10 minutes.
Remove it from the freezer, and invert the mold to remove the fondant shoes.
Grease a piece of wax paper with shortening, and knead the fondant on it just until it becomes workable.
Roll the fondant into two balls with your hands.
Shape one of the balls into a ballerina slipper by forming a log, and then use your fingers to carefully shape the toe and heel of the shoe.
Hollow out the middle of the shoe with a small paring knife or your finger. Repeat with the other fondant ball.
Add detailing to your ballet slippers by rolling out another portion of fondant, and cutting out ribbons and bows with the paring knife. Carefully press the ribbons and bows to the fondant ballerina shoes. Read more....
